Mobile Industrial Robot (MiR) is Changing The Game

Although robots have been improving a wide variety of industries all over the country, many facilities have concerns regarding expenses and programming of the new technology.

Metro Plastics Technologies, Inc. felt that they should share how the MiR200 autonomous robot has impacted their business. The manufacturing company has been a provider of superior custom molding services since 1975. Since that time, the business has grown significantly and with that, they faced new challenges. One of those was how to transport material within the plant to different stages of production without delaying the delivery time of the project to the customer. It all changed when they were introduced to the MiR200 autonomous robot.

With its simplicity to program, durability and ability to work on its own, employees were free to focus on the tasks that will result in the best products. The company quickly realized that the autonomous robot is the most cost and time effective solution. Along with that, the robot has completely eliminated fork lift traffic and the plant has become a safer work environment for employees.

According to the manufacturing company's Project Coordinator Emma Morris, mapping the entire production floor only took 2-3 hours and changing the programming to adjust to the plant’s needs that come with time is extremely easy.

Metro Plastics Technologies, Inc. is one of the many businesses the MiR robot has impacted. If you would like to learn how the MiR autonomous robot can improve your facility, give us a call at (800) 228-2790.

Avoid Costly Downtimes And Eliminate Challenges With Smart Sensor Technology

What is a Smart Sensor?

Smart sensors provide the ability to setup a sensor locally using the built-in buttons and menu display. Long after a sensor has been in place, when the sensor is damaged or has failed, the replacement sensor must be setup for the application. It can take some time to locate the correct sensor data sheet, so if someone is unfamiliar with the push button sequence and menu display, it can delay setup, thus resulting in extended machine downtime and profit loss. Smart sensors help eliminate such challenges.

Banner offers an extensive line of smart sensors to help solve applications. Watch their video highlighting their offerings and how they could handle your challenging requirements, help you avoid downtimes, and how they can even let you know when maintenance is required.

C&E is also hosting a webinar on smart sensor technology next Thursday, April 12th. CLICK HERE for details.

BEEP Technology From Turck: Allowing A Network Of Devices To Communicate As A Single Device

Recently, Turck introduced their Backplane Ethernet Extension Protocol (BEEP). This is a new technology that has been integrated into many of Turck's multiprotocol digital block I/O modules and allows a network of devices to communicate as a single device.

BEEP allows a network of up to 33 devices (1 Master + 32 slaves) or 480 bytes of data to appear to the PLC as a single device on a single connection using a single IP address. The user will be able to create high density I/O networks and still utilize their low cost PLC due to the reduction in number of connections the PLC sees.

This technology is utilized by making the first device in the line a BEEP master, which can be done via the device webserver. The BEEP master can then scan the entire network and create a new data map that includes all of the downstream devices, with all device configuration options saved in the master.

BEEP also supports drop-in device replacement, reducing downtime and overall expenses. If the network is setup using BEEP, a technician can simply replace a slave device to keep the system online. The BEEP master will automatically recognize the device, assign it an IP address, and download parameters to it.

For more information please call C&E at 800-228-2790. Thank you!
